Casa I News

Dear Families,

Happy new year!  It is exciting to have a brand new year! We are looking forward to beginning with a positive attitude and firmly deciding that this year will bring us good health and energy to accomplish many of our goals.  During this month, the children also look for new challenges and accomplishments. I’m sure we will see very nice strides in work during this time and for the months to come.

Our focus will be basic grace and courtesy presentations and guiding the children back to the school routine and work. Some of the children already started to challenge themselves with the golden bead work, such as fetching, formation of numbers, and the change game!

The golden bead materials (pictured below) give the child a concrete introduction to the decimal system. The materials consist of unit beads, ten bars, hundred squares and cubes of thousand, which are made by wiring together 10 hundred squares.  This is the first sensorial approach to distinguish the materials by seeing and touching them. The child becomes familiar with the names of the different categories.  It has been fun to observe the whole process and to witness how engaged the children seem to be while doing this work.

This month we'd also like to welcome our new student Karolina and her family to Casa 1 and to our JMS community. Please make sure to take some time to welcome them as well. As you can see, we will have some busy weeks ahead with much to look forward to!

Reminders:

1. Please arrive on time.  Try to be in the Casa by 8:30 – 8:45 a.m.  It helps the children start their work cycle with fewer interruptions.

2. Please make sure that your child always has an extra change of clothing at school.
