Casa II News

Casa 2 parents,

New Student
Please help me in welcoming another new child to Casa 2!  We are excited to have Finn and his family join our community.  Please introduce yourselves to Joe, Jess and Finn if you see them around JMS!

Zumba at JMS
I’d like to say a big “Thank You!” to Casa 1 parent, Ana, for coming to JMS to do Zumba with the afternoon children… they LOVED it!!  We hope to do this again a few more times before spring.  It’s a great way to get moving, especially when it’s too cold to go outside!  Please remember that if you have a special talent or interest, we welcome you to come in and share that with us and the children!  We also invite you to come in to read stories to the children.  Please contact me if you have an idea of something you’d like to share with us and we can find a date that works for you!

Jersey/Pajama Days
At the children’s request, we have decided to have a “support your favorite localorprofessional sports team” Jersey Day on Friday, January 23rd.  We also have Pajama Day scheduled for Friday, February 6th.  Please put these dates on your calendar if your children wish to participate!

Heifer International
The children in Casa 2 raised $50.00 for Heifer International, the organization that raises money to donate animals to families in need- primarily in Africa, but also in some other areas.  The children participated in voting to help us decide which animals to give.  Each child was given two tokens and were able to vote for their top two choices.  In the end, the children ended up choosing a flock of chicks ($20) and a portion of fish fingerlings ($30).  Please see the photos of the voting process... the children loved it! Thank you, children and families, for helping us raise money to help build sustainable farming communities and successful futures for these families.

Jazz for JMS
MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  SATURDAY, MARCH 7TH

Our biggest fundraising event of the year is upon us and we are so excited to get started on this year’s items for the silent auction!  One of the most highly anticipated materials in a Montessori classroom is the “barn/farm work,” which helps children with reading, nouns, adjectives, verbs, and other Function of Word activities (grammar).  This is a long-awaited work that children typically do not work with until around age 5.  One of this year’s items will be a personalized Casa 2FARM SET! Descriptive labels will also be included so one lucky family can work on this together at home, just like the children do at school!

I would like to ask Casa 2 families to help us put together a full barnyard, complete with animals and props!  I will be sending out an online Sign-Up Genius with various animals and props listed.  If you can help us by providing one or two items (typically $2-$5 each), please sign up!  You may bring them to school any time between now and February 20th.  You can also include your child in choosing a special item.  I’ve seen these animals available at Fleet Farm, but I know they are readily available in other stores, as well.  Thank you for helping us make this year’s Jazz event the best one yet!!

Communication
For our new families, just a reminder to email or call if there’s anything you want to discuss… and please don’t wait until spring conferences if there’s something we should talk about sooner.  I can easily be reached by email at tbender@jonathanmontessori.org or by calling the school at (952) 448-5232.  Don’t forget to “like” our Jonathan Montessori School Facebook page for continued updates and reminders of upcoming JMS events.  We also have a “Taryn CasaTwo” Facebook page… please add me if you’d like.  I occasionally post reminders or stories of what’s happening within the classroom, but these reminders will always be in the newsletters as well.  Enjoy the “heat wave” this weekend! :)

Respectfully,

Taryn and Lisa, Casa 2
